Yes, we got it off today. Had to use the flywheel lock because crank wanted to rotate using Torquemeister. Not sure what is causing the leak, but suspect improperly installed seal as appears to be a ball peen deformation near the bottom of seal. Break loose torque was 270 ftlb.

Phrased another way it is the squeezed two wrench maneuver for loosening/tightening a fastener.David Jones wrote:Phil.
If you have a torquemeister you do not even need a flywheel lock. Just turn the torquemeister by aligning the socket wrench across the flywheel nut turning it opposite to flywheel rotation thereby counter turning the wrench to flywheel motion. Think about it and it will become clear what I am describing.

Re: Need flywheel bolt spacing
When using the TorqueXXXXXXX, the flywheel will rotate in the opposite direction of the applied load. If the flywheel is restrained by a device, the applied torque will try to "lift" the engine. 270 lb-ft is not very tight. Seal should never be hammered in as this is a violation of good practices and is likely to compromise the longevity of the seal. Hammering the seal to assure minimum skewness often results in the observed damage. Check the hub of the flywheel for a groove. If the fingernail can detect a depression, the hub will need to be refinished or a narrower seal fit. If the latter, a tool like I offer[see classifieds]will be beneficial if not necessary. Standard width or narrower width [8mm is available], the tool assured a perfect installation the first time, every time.Phil Planck wrote:Yes, we got it off today.
