I rebuilt my other 356, (actually, Geoff Fleming did and the results are brilliant), and I did the following:
- Street racing Elgin cam
- AA Performance 1760 big bore kit
- Lightened flywheel
- Delorto carbs, 40 IDF with jetting bumped up a bit
- 020 dizzy
- Full flow oil system
So there you go. Runs great. Now, for my new 1964, I'm thinking about the same setup but, using the nickies 1883 pistons. Thoughts? I want something that is peppy. Not race track peppy but, when I give it gas, I want it to go. What else should I consider?
Thanks in advance.

I'm running an 1883 cc engine built by Jim Ansite.
JE pistons
Nickies
Willhoit cam
912 connecting rods and cam followers
912 case & heads
40 mm Dellortos with Willhoit custom air filters
Recurved 022 distributor
Free flow oil filter
Aluminum oil cooler
Great torque and power. Tall 4th gear.
If you Google 1883 cc engines, you'll find a lot of discussion on them from previous Talk List threads.

Thanks Mike. Will do the search. In the meantime, I would do this to a stock 356C engine. Do I need a 912 block to do the mods? FWIW, the C I built up above, I used a 912 block.

The C case will be just fine. I was fortunate to find a NOS/NIB 912 case to use.

Re: planning on rebuilding my 356C engine...1883 Nickies?
In the later part of July 1963 the factory ran out of engine blocks and switched to the C/SC/912. These have a larger pick up tube and the serial numbers begin with a P0XXXXXX. A seven digit serial number. This is outlined in your 356B T-6 parts supplement book. Except for modifications in the support area (cross bar for the 912) and different holes for the mounting of the shock mount oil cooler all these engines blocks are the same. al zim

So I have a 1960 1600 super ..... is this a good base to do a big bore upgrade?
It's not original to the car so no originality issue.

I am pretty sure that has the small oil pump probably making it less of a good base than a slightly newer one.

Here's the large pump cover: The small pump cover is visually different, but I don't have a photo of one.Martin Benade wrote:I am pretty sure that has the small oil pump probably making it less of a good base than a slightly newer one.

Thanks for the info ..... was afraid of this .. silver lining is I will have a car to enjoy while new engine is made up!?
I'd like a good quality engine upgraded modestly.... no cheap job, no expensive race ready job.
Any recommendations of best engine/year to use as base? For ready made engine?
