carrera roadster ?

#1 Post by Ned Gorski »

i had a dream last night about a barn find it was carrera roadster . i woke up this morning thought to myself i've never heard of a carrera roadster ... This got me to thinking Sooooo were roadsters available with carrera 4 cam motors ??
I think the dream was triggered from that 365a outlaw hot wheels car that looks like it has a 356c rear end and a roadster front end .. after looking at the little car i thought why would they call this a 356a outlaw and not just a 356 outlaw ? its like they went out of their way to label the toy incorrectly.

Regards Ned

Yes, two were made if I remember correctly. A well known 4-cam dealer in Germany owns one of them

There was one at Amelia Island Concours about 10 years ago in the Carrera class.

A poster here listed one in his signature along with two or three other cool 356 cars. I saw it a few years ago, but I can't remember his name.

Below is a listing (re-arranged) from the Sprenger/Heinrichs book, page 399. I little tough to read because of scanning.

Conv D --
Neither of the two cars ended up with a 4-cam motor. -- so not "real Carreras".

Roadsters --
87818 got a Super 90 nr. 800679 from the beginning. Note says it had Carrera parts; and "replacement chassis 5609". I don't know about any chassis with a number of 5609. -- so probably not a "real Carrera"

87909 got 4-cam engine 93138 but ended up with S-90 engine nr. 800568. Not a real Carrera either.

88077 started with 4-cam engine 95070. At least that's how it started out but ended up getting rebuilt into spare chassis nr. 13147 which appears to be a Coupe. Maybe a "real Carrera" but not a Roadster.

So, which one is the Real Carrera Roadster?

Regarding 88077 I have found this link: https://porschebahn.wordpress.com/2009/ ... -roadster/
So it may still exist. I do not know about replacement chassis 13147 being used.

I remember this car, but I seem to remember another.

Here's a pic of the P4C Class at Amelia in 2009. All fours cams....T2 Speedster, Spyder, T5 Roadster, T5 GT Coupe, T6 GS Coupe, T6 GS Cabrio and a '64 Cabrio. The Roadster VIN 88077 is the ruby red car just behind Porsche Judge Weldon Scrogham. After the Florida owners passing, that German dealer Joris spoke of, bought his entire collection of unique Porsches, new and old. I thought it was the only one produced but I'll concede there may have been another....somewhere....maybe.

I have not seen the Kardex cards on any of those cars. Especially with respect of 88077, the card may tell the real story. The Sprenger/Heinrichs reference on that car could indicate the car was repaired with parts from Coupe chassis 13147, not replaced by that car entirely.

For what it's worth, here are the Kardex's on the cars mentioned.

Leather upholstery in a Roadster- first I have heard about that.

What does deeper (lower) seats mean?

Not original but that is a roadster with a 4 cam engine in it in the UK. The owner showed it at Classics at the Castle about 2.5 years ago. It was built by Eric Studer for the owner.

Since I don't speak Kardex, what does 88077 consist of? Is it clearly rebodied as a coupe?
Cleveland Ohio
62 Cabriolet
56 VW
02 IS 300
04 Sienna
