Scottsdale auctions

#1 Post by Vic Skirmants »

Barbara and I are in Scottsdale. Previewed the 356s at Bonhams on Tuesday; eight of them! Plus a 1958 Spyder.
Will be checking the cars at RM/Sotheby's and Gooding in the next two days. If you have a question about any of the cars at Bonhams, call us on 810-358-7313. I will only be on the computer early in the morning and late at night.

Please bid one million dollars on the Spyder for me so that I can tell my friends I am buying one.

Enjoy our warmth for the next couple days. Sat & Sun you might want to stay inside. Temperature expected to go down 19 - 20 degrees from Friday. (Of course, being from Michigan, Vic will think 50 is a heat wave.)
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

Vic,

we are meeting in Scottsdale with a bunch of the local 356 and early 911 guys on saturday morning, starting around 730am. I expect about 30-40 or so early P cars showing up. This is our usual hangout with the early 911 group. It is at 4till4 (3:56), a 356 themed coffee shop located at 7105 E. First Ave. Scottsdale. AZ 85251.

Hope to see you (and any other registry member in town!) there!

Vic,

Was just checking out two Pre-As on RM/Sothebys website today - would love your expert opinion on the quality of those cars! Looked like they had a '53 coupe and '53 cabriolet in the same colors. Could be a lovely matching set for someone. :)

Wish that someone were me but unless I win the lottery...

Previewed the FOUR pre-As at RM today. The matched pair of Pascha Red coupe and cabrio, were, I'm pretty sure, offered as a pair at an auction at Amelia Island last year (or two years ago; don't have my files with me). Don't think they sold then. Not bad, but with enough faults to drop them from premium grade; dash painted SAME color; not correct for pre-A. Detail notes are out in the car; I'm down for the night.
Jules; thanks for the invite, but we'll be inside at Gooding; Wes tells us it's going to be cold.

Vic:
If you have some time to compare the three Speedsters at the Gooding auction, I was wondering if you could comment on their different expected bid ranges? Is it a function of their differences in condition, or their provenances, or what? Their ranges are quite different. I am picking a model for an apples to apples comparison.

I thought that the 356 market was going to flatten out this past year because the stock market was going nuts. Will I be wrong again this year? Anyone have an opinion on this?

Looking at the ads for those 3 Speedsters there is no way for an Apples to Apples comparison.

Ronald is probably trying to compare to other examples. Pretty difficult regardless.

Hey Vic,

cold is a relative term. My friend from Edmonton, AB is in town walking around in shorts and a t-shirt thinking it is mid summer. :) I'll see you at Gooding tomorrow.

I know it is boring, but I have an early 911T, MFI at Russo and Steele. Full on restoration of numbers and date matching car done in my shop for myself. I just did not like the drive or the "Sit" in the car. Drove to Monterey twice, a 356 is is NOT. Everything correct but the color, just could not paint it Sepia.

Interesting to see what it brings. ............Jim.
