I wasn't able to find a direct answer to this question so I'm asking it here. I installed the Stoddard engine insulation kit as well as the closing panel insulation. I know the engine insulation should be painted satin black. Should the closing panel insulation be painted the same?
The kit appears to be a heavy felt with a faint quilt pattern.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Jack

Re: Paint Closing Panel Insulation?
I would paint everything that is visible black. Another option is to shoot it with Wurth stone guard black which is available in a spray can.

Re: Paint Closing Panel Insulation?
If the closing panel insulation is already installed it might not be worth the trouble to paint it. Mine is unpainted, and you cant see it much at all.

Re: Paint Closing Panel Insulation?
You should paint the sound deadening if possible, even though it is already installed. Use satin-black Rustoleum in a small 1/2 pint can which is available at almost any good sized hardware store. This is an oil-based paint which dries to a nice, tough finish. Apply it with a small foam brush and let it dry for a few days before putting the doors on. Use some tape around the edges to avoid getting excess on the closing panels; but if you do it cleans up well with paint thinner on a paper towel. If you are putting in additional pieces of sound deadening, paint them first and install them when the paint is dry.

Re: Paint Closing Panel Insulation?
Thanks Bob. I installed the driver side piece and realized I probably should have painted it. I didn't get a response to my question for a few hours so I carefully masked and sprayed with Rustoleum satin black.
It looks uneven so I'm going to take your advice and go over it with the satin out of a can and foam brush. The door is off so it will be easy.
Now...if I had only asked this question before I installed all the panels in the engine compartment!
I'll use the same process there.
Thanks again,
Jack
