Exhaust System

#1 Post by Bill Church »

For folks who have the SC engine and added K&N air filters, did you need to replace the muffler to reduce back pressure and if yes what muffler did you use?

I don't have a SC engine but it is a 1883 cc with Willhoit custom air filters with K & N filters. I'm still running the stock muffler with no problems.

It is generally agreed that the stock design muffler is best for most street engines, unless it is highly modified, or you need lots of noise.

In my ‘63 coupe I run a self-rebuilt 912 1720 cc engine with Solexes and K&Ns coupled with a Canadian-built Stebro muffler with quad ported exhaust with individual removable restrictors. I have found best performance both in fuel economy and power output to be with these restrictors installed...for what it’s worth.

Bill: Welcome to the group. The advice above about the original design is right on so if your's isn't broken, don't fix it.

For some reason our system does not require you to tell us your location, but if you do many people like it and they can tell if you are in their area.
