Rear Garnish Rail Question.....

#1 Post by J Warren »

Hey guys,

I have an early 1957 T1 coupe that I am currently restoring. A few pieces were missing including the rear garnish rails. I have sourced a set that came with some other parts but am not sure if they are correct for a T1 coupe. And unfortunately the body is currently at the restorers, so I am unable to see if they fit. I have notice that some of the rear garnish rails have a small cut out near the tab ( the ones I obtained have this cutout) and some remain flat without the cutout. I searched the forum prior to asking and have been looking around on the internet to no avail. While I saw some articles that referenced length( my rails are approximately 26.75 inches at the longest point without adding in the tab length), there seemed to be no reference to the cut out portion. Any and all advice is most welcome.
Thank you,
J

They look too correct, I think all As used the same pieces be it T1 or T2 body.

I am trying to find a picture of mine..
they do look similar for sure.
one thing is that the tab should be at about 90 degrees .. not sort of bent straight, it fits under the rear upholstery piece.

Jim, I always pushed mine straight in. Maybe 50 cars. Your approach is a better installation. ...........Jim.

The rear cutout has something to do with the rear defroster tube I think. Maybe a "C" thing? As they changed from a U shaped pipe to individual insulated pipes to the rear window?
