Reviving the thread as still haven't found out any more info on Carrera Coupes that Cuevas raced. The RSC website lists close to 80 races that
he entered between '56 to '60 with most being Carrera Coupes so there's got to be some pix out there somewhere. Anybody got any leads or info to share?

I just got the Kardex on a ruby red 1959 Coupe that I found in a barn.
It was delivered direct from the factory to John Cuevas, Quiver Enterprises!

Perhaps it was his daily driver? Or he used it for the tub?

Im currently looking for the engine. 84275 and tranny 28588

He is listed as a co driver with Huschke von Hanstein/Linge Sebring 1958 356 A Carrera car number 43.....if you can't find it let me know; I recall there is a photo of the car....a 58.

There's a couple photos of the #43 Carrera at Sebring at the Revs Archive.

And if you know the races he entered, you can do a search for photos from those races. The archive extensively covers this whole period very well.

Jim Perrin wrote:Dave, following is what I have in my files about Cuevas:

John Cuevas, who was from Florida, drove his “RS Spyder” in the March 8, 1958 Boca Raton Road Races. He was a very successful Carrera GT Speedster driver, and raced the Speedster at the same Boca Raton races. 1957 was apparently Cuevas’s first or first full year of racing sports cars. They called him Quiver, and cars were all red with a yellow stripe that went the front. He died in maybe 2000 or so. Heinz Bade told me in 2007 that he used to work for Cuevas when he was working as a Carrera mechanic in Florida before moving to Maryland.

In 2000 Chuck Rickert told me that Dean Causey raced an RSK that came from Johnnie Cuevas from Miami (who was called “Quiver” because he shaked).
Any idea how the yellow stripe was applied to his red cars?
I have one of his red cars. Would be fun to restore it that way.

Hey Tom
I don't know if this helps but I asked the previous owner of my S90 whom had worked for Heinz and John about the stripe. Here's his answer;
first car was red with a yellow front that was a mistake as John picked up the wrong can of spray paint. The color was Primrose Yellow. He then added a broad stripe front to rear.
For Cuba, the car was black with a yellow front and stripe. That stripe became John's trademark along with the nick name "Quiver:. When John became angry or excited, his body would shake.

I'm sure some pictures would help.

Hi: Dick: An update to my post years ago.

GSGT Speedster 84904 is incorrectly documented in Kardex as GS with no GT options. Unfortunately Kardex is not as accurate as we expect it to be, my SC Cabriolet (I bought it new) is also incorrectly documented in Kardex.

The Carrera was delivered to Glockler, Frankfurt May 30, 1958 and then sold to Mr. Jean Spiedel (USA) June 5, 1958. Spiedel then raced the Speedster in the S.E. USA, and at Bahamas Speedweeks in Oct 1958 through early 1959 when he sold to Cuevas. Cuevas raced the car in S.E. USA, Cuban Gran Prix and Bahamas Speedweeks through late 1960.
The original 4-cam 91010 was blown up at Sebring March 1960 when Cuevas was driving as a Factory entry ( No. 41). 4-cam 90957 was then installed and is healthy today. As, stated years ago the Speedster has all known GT options and features except the Aluminum seats and hubcaps. All factory stamped original panels are amazingly still on the car. The Speedster has just completed a total resoration. I've never heard the name Firmanick associated with the car.

Thank you John, lol. That was quite funny. Justin was right, I was living out of it for 8 days. Almost 4000 miles over 8 days and then took a quick turn and burn up to Road Atlanta clocking another 900 miles this past weekend.

Reviving this old thread as I'm still looking for pix of his Carrera Coupes. He usually raced with # 83 or sometimes # 183 on his cars. Anybody got any pix, race programs or info on him?

Hi Dave,

John Cuevas partnered von Hanstein and Linge in a Porsche KG factory-entered Carrera coupe #43 in the 1958 Sebring 12hr. Finished 1st in class. Here's some photos of the car:

and his co-drivers:

and you can see the door of the car on the starting grid here:

Hope this helps.

What's interesting is the #2 foto of the 1958 #43 car shows it with vent windows. I wasn't aware A coupes came with vent windows. My '58, VIN 102797 did not come with vent wings.
