Posting for a friend...
Sometime back, there was a thread on repairing the sensor for an indoor/outdoor thermometer. I believe the company/individual was in the U.K. Does anyone remember the source? I tried a search of our threads and Googled the topic but came up empty.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Re: Outdoor temp gauge sensor repair
The sensor is a bimetallic thermocouple, I believe a type L or K. It is a spot welded small 2 wire circuit. Where the two dissimilar metal wires are welded together, the different metals make a small DC voltage at the junction. This voltage drivers the meter movement in the gage. The wire colors of the T/C are a industry standard. Look at your system, you can replace the sensor with a like type thermocouple. If the gauge is good, an new sensor will work fine. T/C circuits are relatively cheap and easy to fix.
