Bullet connector

#1 Post by Lars Hvidsteen »

On my oil- temp/tank gauge 356 T6 1962, one of the female bullet connectors have fallen off/gone bad so no connetction to temp reading. I have made a ugly quickfix until I find some correct bullet female to solder on the spot.. but they seem to be hard to find?

Ideas are welcome

thanks.Lars

I did a bunch of harness repair for the gauge lights when I got my car. Got the wire (blue/yellow stripe) and bullet connectors (male, female) from YnZ.

I don't think you'll find the correct outer plastic piece that attaches to the meter back. The sources above will have pieces that you could rig something (but you've already done that), but if you want it to look exactly as it did, only the instrument repair shops might have an exact replacement. Most of the instrument repair shops don't sell individual parts in my experience, and only provide them as part of the service of the instrument.

I think a small hollow rivet is what breaks. If you still have all the original pieces, possibly a rivet could be made pretty easily on a lathe.

There are 2-sizes of bullet connectors; Not sure which one is listed in Stoddard's catalog.

Stoddard has the only size that my B uses. There is a second size?

Yes... Porsche Bullets are .180 and the dark lord Lucas bullets (which were used on all other European vehicles) are .185.

What an elegant way to keep the dark lord out of our 356s! :)

The way I heard it, Joseph Lucas invented darkness then Robert Bosch came along and improved on it.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.
