Driven your 356 yet in 2018?

#1 Post by Larry Brooks »

After a white and icy Christmas we had a dry and not too cold(48º) New Years Day. I noticed the 1963 Super 90 was dripping gasoline onto my garage floor so I pulled it out of the garage so I could get my 1963 Cab off the lift and put the S90 on to check out the problem. Of course I had to take the opportunity to drive the Cab for a few "maintenance miles" while it was out. Got the S90 on the lift and discovered that the fuel line from the body to the engine was weeping so I replaced it. Since it hasn't been licensed for over 10 years I took it for a much shorter drive to the end of my street and back. But technically I think I was one of the first to drive two 356's in 2018?

Incidentally, the S90 is headed to it's new owner in the Bay area in the next few weeks and I'm sure the new owner will be on this site in the future.

My wife and I took our ratty B coupe on a New Years Day drive with some 356 friends through the San Diego back country. Beautiful high 70s sunny weather.

I drove from the lift into the trailer to go to the paint shop, wouldn't dare drive on the roads right now, they are literally white with salt!

Ok guys in the warm climes, stop posting photos of palm trees and sunshine. It is making us sick. In Chicago it is freezing and like Adam says the roads are white with salt here too. Huge potholes come next. Our "driving season" starts in March.

Driving season here starts in May, my road is usually a mud bog all through April...

My poor car is stored cold and it has been like -15 at night, would not even try to start it.

Plenty of other fun things to do in Winter though, I don't mind it at all as long as there is plenty of snow!

Hi all
Haven't driven Our Coupe since 2016! when it went down to the Classic Le Mans. Must make the effort. I've been in Spain, they have had Snow & Ice here in the UK so loads of salt out there, and now we have been hit with storm Eleanor!
Keep it tucked away till the Spring I think. Do envy you guys in sunny climates. Happy 2018.
Cheers
Jay

Driving season here starts in October and stops in May. Here a few shots from our New Year's day drive. We had about 30 cars and 80F/ 25C temps. No complaining here, that starts in June when it's 110F outside and everyone is stuck in their house with the AC running 22 hours a day.

Larry, your picture makes me jealous. I look forward to the day when I have two 356 cars in the garage.

Went to a New Years day meet in Stony Stratford in our 356C, as usual it rained but not while we were driving, thats the UK in Winter, the rain usually washes away the salt. It was cold but not freezing Thats me in the red jacket. Happy New Year everyone, keep the cars moving. Robin.

I've been out several times in 2018 but then it's DFW Texas so not such a bid deal. Much nicer than Texas in August! Last weekend my son and I took a nice long trip around all the back roads we could find in the area. I had the car 4 wheel aligned and it is really driving great!! In fact, it's driving better than I remember the two I had back in the 60's and 70's.
