60 356b proper screw placement for door panels
Anyone have the exact factory placement for the door skin mounting screws? I’m trying to be as accurate as possible and ready to mount door skin panels. A pic or diagram would be awesome. Shelhart2@gmail.com

Shel,
If no one has the measurements, and I am not aware of any, see if you can get access to some original door panels and use them as a template.

Were your old holes welded up? If you need to drill new holes and are using new screws in stainless, get some same-size regular sheet metal screws to run in first. The SS ones often strip themselves before cutting their way into a new hole.

Re: 60 356b proper screw placement for door panels
I will try to post a picture of a 58 door later today with the location of the screw holes. In the meantime, here is a reprint of an article from the 356CAR newsletter in August, 2016 that might be of assistance with your door panel installation. It describes a neat method to locate the positions of the screw on the door panel prior to punching a hole for the screws. A big thanks to Kit Sodergren for coming up with the idea and the tool.

I'm abroad at the moment so can't check the book, however if I am not mistaken does the Kellog restoration book not give accurate measurements for the screws.
Maybe someone could take a shot of it and post it.

Here is a picture taken from the driver's door of a 58 Cabriolet currently under restoration. It should be the same door as your 60 version. The picture is a high resolution JPEG which has adequate detail to guide you in placement of the screw holes. Also included is a PDF version of the same diagram.

Many thanks for the contributions. I wrestled with installing the front seats and all went well. I’ll do door panels last. She’s a beauty and will post pics when done.

Re: 60 356b proper screw placement for door panels
I realize that the garnish rail is supposed to be wrapped but don't like it as much as the body colored painted rails. From a judging standpoint, do I get penalized for this? Sorry of all of the Noob questions as this is first Toal restore I've done...

Shel,
At a PCA or serious Porsche event, yes you will get “penalized”. At a more casual gathering prolly not. If the car is for serious showing you may want to wrap it. If it is to enjoy for yourself then leave it the way it is. Ultimately it is your car and 100% up to you. I think it looks great.

A 1960 SHOULD NOT be wrapped.

Should it be painted body color or interior color?

Re: 60 356b proper screw placement for door panels
Interior color for the door top rails, same as the interior body area directly under the front window, so when the dash is installed, you see interior color, not body color between the forward part of the dash pad and the base of the front window. This can be seen when viewed from the outside when complete. Use the same color for both areas.

Just remember that the body color under and ahead of the dash pad should be flat hand painted, not glossy like the body. It is intended to avoid reflections.
