I agree with Jules. The top of the 5 is the giveaway. Just not the same as the top of the 6.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

I asked him, he sent another pic clearly showing 6255 on both bodies. Never seen that before.

I hope this works like golf, as I've got him beat by 90 strokes. That said, I hope this doesn't become the next concourse craze...I hate to imagine having to match Carb numbers :P

I see you have the proper tool to remove all lint and cat fur from the carbs, no lost concours points for that at least!

Hmm you bring up a very solid point Mario...

Maybe we should open an 'matching carb wanted' forum.

Merry Christmas

Having carb numbers matching actually happens more often than you may think. Have seen many sets go through the shop with matching or consecutive series numbers. Actually must have seen a dozen bodies with the same number it's 6013, some came in as pairs, others with a different numbered body, but all with that same 6013. Have seen other matching carb numbers but mostly with the 4 digit bodies. On the topic of numbers recently saw a 5 digit carb body with a XX799 partial stamping above the XX800, so likely the numbering was automated in the manufacturing process.

I only found out a couple of years ago that some of the carbs are dated when guys starting calling me looking for dated carb bodies.

Dates on Solex's? I know of the Zenith dates on the side, but have yet to find a date on a Solex. If you tell me there's dates on Solex's, I may just huddle up in a corner and cry for a while.

Jules the early S90's have an interesting history, the development of manufacturing the bodies was evolving as the 356's were coming off the assembly line. Changes involved the way passages were drilled and that required different molds of the metal. The earliest S90 actually looks different, had no numbers and a pair weighs 2 pounds more than the later carbs. Extra weight was from a potmetal top and potmetal venturis, these components were changed to aluminum very quickly. Numbers on the early S90 carbs were crude and stamped deep, never saw a matching # pair.

To those 356'ers concerned with originality. All versions of Solex carbs used on Porsches DO NOT have a date stamp, so don't loose any sleep looking for one. Take it from someone that's handled 1,000's of Porsche carbs. Zenith 32 NDIX on the other hand do!
