John: have you checked out Eric's site, 356 tools? It is very comprehensive.

John,
The wrench #s look correct even if the photo barely shows the sizes; They should be 8-9, 11-12, 10-14, & 17-19.
The later C tool kits included the early 900 series wrenches having 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, & 17-19.
Spare V belt & a fuse pack missing(?)

Dick,
"C" toolkits have a 12-14 wrench and not the 12-13 and 14-15 like the 900 series cars. The 12-14 wrench is very hard to find.

Isn't that picture from Eric Cherneff's website http://www.356tools.com/toolkits/late_a_tool_kit.htm?

Yes, and the question is whether or not it is correct. In other words, can someone with an original tool kit from 1959 please post a few pics on what theirs looks like? I don’t want to make a decision based on just one website. Thanks.

Re: 1959 356A tool kit
I finally got around to looking at my '59 tool kit, and yes it looks pretty much like Eric's one you posted. One difference is mine has a blue "B" Bag, and that may have been purchased or supplied later locally. Car was a Tourist Delivery, factory pickup, July 1959, shipped to San Francisco dealer April 1960. When I bought the car in 1968 the tool bag was under the spare tire with only a few tools. The pliers, and I have two different ones, both similar but two different sizes. Also the spark plug has a smooth insulator. Not sure if any are original.

Doug...I believe both of your pliers are VW. The Porsche pliers (I'm led to believe) didn't have those pointy handle ends. For those interested, fuses were not included in 356 kits but instead were stored on the glove box door, inside middle strap in a paper folder. Perhaps Brad Ripley or other toolkit experts could chime in and prove me wrong on this. OK...I'm ready for the hits.

Does Neil’s Book show the tool kit?
I can’t remember, and I have no idea where my copy is after the move.
I think his car was a 58 but it would be a good reference point.

Neil's book has several tool kit photos but only shows the jaws end of the pliers (with a curved wire cutter) peeking out from a pocket in the tool kit.Steve Harrison wrote:Does Neil’s Book show the tool kit?

Neil's book also shows the the pouch with the Messko gauge hidden inside but not the gauge.
Otherwise, it looks a heck of a lot like the photo from http://www.356tools.com/toolkits/late_a_tool_kit.htm

Re: 1959 356A tool kit
Jim I already confirmed that it is the same pic. The question was if anyone here had an original kit. Someone sent me this one.
