Another option is to replace the sender (as I did): http://www.partdeal.com/vdo-alas-adjust ... 6-001.html

Krylon will wash right off.
I've used that on brake backing plates and heater boxes. It's good stuff!

Premium Fuel rattle can resistant black paint vendor?

Steve, don't tighten the nut on the center sender post until you see how it is attached. Doing so can separate a fine copper wire making the sender useless. Re-soldering/reattaching the wire is a PITA. I was able to straighten the pot metal top and the areas around the screw holes but one also must be very careful. Two part auto paint with the hardener, such as a chassis paint, is relatively impervious to staining if the gasoline doesn't sit too long on top of the tank. Ab Tiedemann sold a very nice adaptor for refueling A and early B tanks that spread the load over the opening and allowed use of a filler with the rubber bellows. I thought about having a more simple one made out of a hard plastic but gave up on the idea when I sold my A - the early VW guys could use one as well. Good luck.

Hi all,
I have a guy to try to restore my warped original fuel sender.
Worse case, if he cannot do it I know Stoddard does not sell a reproduction 356a sender.
Any other vendors that do please let me know, or I'd have to source an old used a sender.
thank you,
Steve

Another question,
I use a battery tender always. Once fuel sender is removed, should I place tape over exposed fuel opening as well as keep hood up and open for venting. Do not want any spark or issue for fire. It may be a few days while repair is being done.
Thanks,
Steve

Covering the openings in the fuel tank certainly couldn't hurt.

I few days without the battery maintainer won't hurt you but it would be best to remove the battery. Did your maintainer come with some jumper cable-style clips? you don't want an energized wire to create a spark if it touches electrical ground (or a conductive tool completes a circuit).

Well I used "Easy Turn" fuel resistant lubricant on the rubber gasket under the sender and that seems to have worked.
Left it a few days to dry and cure. Now need to touch up tank with paint.
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
Steve
