Here in the UK we don't get much coverage of Nascar racing, which is a shame, however whilst recently reading a book on the history of the sport in the US I came across a name I knew very well. Porsche racer extraordinaire - Mr. Vic Elford, known more for his fearsome driving 917's around European circuits. It was late 60's, early 70's when Vic took the wheel in the Monster energy series, I don't believe with much success but it shows if you have the talent to race cars fast you can race any car fast.

Graham, Jaguar won a NASCAR race in 1954 so I expect all Brits to be NASCAR crazy, or maybe not. When I looked up what year they had the win I found this article and discovered that Porsche and many other imports also competed in NASCAR so Daniel Suarez may just be a devoted traditionalist. At least he didn't buy a Citroen(2CV or DS?). I can't picture a 2CV racing against a Ford or Chevy.

Cool article, if you read further you see that Citroen did compete against Ford and Chevy finishing in the top 20 at Riverside in 1958.
