what did I do with my time machine ?

#1 Post by John Ward »

So, my brother-in-law was a PCA member back in the 60`s. He kept a few Panorama`s from then.
He just sent me a few from 1967 & 1968. So, the first think I do is look at the "Mart"
You`d better sit down for this one.....................
About 6 356 Carrara`s 2L ranging in price from $1800.00 to $2200.00
A Carrara Speedster for $2200.00
a 1953 "America" roadster, serial 12345. $5000.00
A1959 RSK Spyder for $2600.00 Seller says this car should be de-tuned and driven on the street !
And the best for last !
RS-62 Spyder #718-072 Bob Holbert`s car. 8 cyl. prototype car $3500.00

Of course, in 1967, you could buy a new Ford or Chevy for around $2500.00

Too expensive, held out for an RS60 a few years later.

So $2000 in 1963 is $16000 in 2017 dollars. The cost of a used Boxster.

Bruce, used boxsters are half that price, I know I own one, a 97. When I bought it in 2002 I paid more than I paid for any one of my 356's.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

John, that America Roadster is now owned by Chuck Stoddard. Vic would also love to have it because the chassis number is his birthday!

By chance could you scan the ad and post it here?

Actually if I do ever get a time machine, I'm going to be friend's with Dick Hyland a few years earlier than when I met him. What a yard!

I`ll try it again, I`m having trouble posting the picture.
Can I just email it to you ?
Do you think Chuck would like the magazine ? I could mail it to him.

Adam, Wow! I grew up just down the street from the address in Pensacola for the Super 90 posted by R.E Romine. Chances are the owner was a customer of Superior Motors, later University VW/Porsche where my father was parts manager. I remember in high school going over with a buddy to a house in Navy Point (circa 1977) and inside the garage was a blue C coupe.

If my Time Machine was a compact model, I would at least have brought back parts & accessories.
Would they cease to be NOS upon my return to the present?

I love these close connections. I recently had a C Coupe that the address on the Kardex was a mile from the house I was born in Atlanta.

John, if you send me the picture I’ll forward it to him to see if he has it already and if not let him know you’ll mail the magazine to him. I’m sure he would love it!

Here is my time machine close connection story-

In 1974 I lived in Southern California and bought my first Porsche, a 62 B coupe. Met my wife because of that car, but that's another story. The car is long gone and we have had several Porsches along the way. We also relocated to Whidbey Island, Washington.

Fast forward to a few months ago. I bought a 65 C coupe and had it shipped to me from Sedona Arizona. Along with the car came lots of receipts dating back to the early 1970's.

I noticed the address on one of the receipts was from Glendale, California- one mile from where I lived when I bought my first 356!
I actually called that owner, and talked with him, great fella. Odds are that we once flashed our headlights at each other way back when.
