Old Tank Gas Cap

#1 Post by Lukas van Rooyen »

Gas Cap
Has anybody ever seen a NOS Gas Cap like this with a small hole on the side. I certainly have not seen it before.
Thanks.

Could you post a side view of the cap and the complete part number, please.

On the opposite side of the cap there will be an inscription that tells you if the cap is vented or not.

I'm guessing it's a factory service part for the unvented, pre-A tank that prevents the tank from expanding or contracting due to sudden temperature changes.

Thanks for the replies. The cap is not mine. I want to buy it but it now looks like it might be the rong cap as I have a RHD C. The '64 RHD C's still had the filler on top of the tank and not on the side as the LHD models.
Will appreciate some more advice.\
Thanks

Looks like a standard 356A fuel tank cap made by Blau. Someone has drilled a hole in it. The part number printed on it 644 201 270 00 indicates it's for the 356A. If you get a photo of the underside, we can tell you if it is early or late. The earliest caps like these were used in 1952 and have different writing on them than the later ones.

The torn Porsche label and the part number on the tag do not agree??????????? Is the 914.423. a replacement number?
