Ride height

#1 Post by Fred Otjen »

I notice a variety of ride heights for the T6 cars, especially C / SC cars. What's the right height for these cars? A little lower looks better, probably performs better too. Picture is of my original '65 C.

It has never been apart? It looks pretty high. Top of rear wheel opening should be approximately even with the top of the rim on a T6, according to my eyes.

Mine is unrestored and has been this height (looks to be a bit higher than the rim) for years .

My Roadster is a "retired" racer; sits quite a bit lower (with expected negative camber)

Rear ride height is a function of where you have the trailing arm angle set.Craig Richter described decambering the rear 0.5 to 1 degree for better handling in his book. But your car has been hit left rear hasn't it? So depending on how it was fixed could be different than stock. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=38731

It seems like they varied somewhat from the factory. Tom's looks typical and my description is probably a touch lower than the usual factory height. Looking at the DY356 Day pictures in the latest magazine will give you a good idea. Even if your car was hit it shouldn't sit that high unless they botched the body or set the torsion bars incorrectly.

Coincidentally, the height of my original unrestored '65C cab's rear wheel fender height is exactly the same as yours at 21.75" with original rims and tire size. Never had an inclination or valid reason to lower it.

Can you guys tell me the measured stock heights of your front fenders? I used the adjusters to lower my front, but it still seems higher than stock based on appearance.

Without knowing your car's yr/model/condition, the 25.5" front fender height of my original '65C cab may be irrelevant.

Measurements from the rim would be better, then tire dimensions and pressure would be ignored.

I have a 64SC with a restored suspension. I am at 25.25. I was looking to see if I am in the ballpark.
Thanks

Doug, good eye, yes second owner was hit in left rear, repaired in the '70s. However right side height is same and car sits level. Other owners report same fender height but different (less) tire showing - how can that be? What's the rear fender height of yours?

Bigger tires would do that, hence my previous comment. We have lots of different size tires.

I guess I'll just leave it as is, runs, drives and rides just fine.

It seems there are different stock heights floating around on the forum. Did a C have a different stock heights to an SC?

I see a lot of SC rear fender sits just above the rim but on the other-hand I see a lot C’s with more tyre of show.

My SC is about 25.2” at the front (slightly lowered by 0.3”) but I can’t remember the rear measurements. I’ll get them later this evening.
