Unidentifiable Engine Serial Number

#1 Post by Lex Hightower »

Hello All,
This is my first post, as I am a new member. I have a 1960 356 T5 that came with a motor that I am unable to find even a casting # on. I have looked in the normal places such as the gen stand and right behind the fan shroud on the case hump. The only numbers I am able to find are stamped on the oil sender section of the engine case itself. However these set of numbers appear to be to long for any serial # I have research thus far. All areas where the number should be are in my opinion "virgin in appearance" meaning i don't believe those areas to have been ground off or milled down. Has anyone run into this issue before?
Thanks for any help!

Lex,
Per Jules, pictures would help. But the factory sold un-numbered replacement cases for ones damaged beyond economic repair. You are fortunate no one tried to stamp a fake number on it; that gets VERY difficult to explain.

The replacement cases always had the case matching numbers, so those should be there at a minimum.
