Re: Best way to modify flapper boxes for dual plug wiring
Mike, probably not.
The location of the plug (meaning the gap) is important, but equally important is the axis of the plug C/L (which means the drilling) in two planes.
My lower gaps are as close as I can get to diametrically opposite to provide the shortest flame travel and least ignition lead. But the axis drillings were designed to allow a specific flapper box modification which keeps them 'sealed' (as well as they ever were), but has a removable section for plug access.
Going at it after the plugs are fitted means you do what you can, not what you might wish.

I have an admission of guilt, I've seen a photo of Ron's set up, and in our aircraft dual ignition engines, we had more room, in which to work...

Hadn't seen your response earlier.Mike Horton wrote:I have an admission of guilt, I've seen a photo of Ron's set up, and in our aircraft dual ignition engines, we had more room, in which to work...
The 616 aero engines provide much easier access to the lower plugs, but the plug location is chosen for that 'serviceability'; those engines were not designed to squeeze the maximum power out of the 616 chamber.
Alex, I'll look forwardd to seeing what you arrived at.
