Steel loops at top of wooden floor boards
Greetings:
I have a 1959 built 1960 model year 356B super coupe. Ruetter body. In the process of nitpicking though a lot of old poorly done repairs, wiring, fasteners, a substantial list. Replacing the rubber floor mat. At the top of the wooden floor boards there are two metal "hoops" which look like they would accept a leather belt. They fit corresponding slots in the wooden floor boards.
What is the purpose of these? are there supposed to be small belts there?
Thanks, Erik

Originally, short metal clips were inserted into the loop, which went through an opening in the rubber floor mat., These clips held the mat in place against the wooden kick boards.

Geoff,
I thought that the clips held the floorboards in place and the snaps held that floormat in place. That's not correct?

Clips held the floorboards.

I found them.. "pedal board spring" 644-551-631-00 2 Required. The spring is inserted and holds the wooden foot board down..
Thanks for the info, Erik

They are usually a bit difficult to insert.

I use channel lock pliers to install/remove the clips. One side grasps the end of the clip, the other grasps the side of the loop. And yes, if the spring pops off, it invariably lands behind the pedal board!

Wear protective glasses when you try that!

Place one end of the clip into the loop. Using a flat-blade screwdriver against the raised center part, tap it into place. Same procedure works for removal.

I flatten mine out just a bit. The floor board isn't going anywhere.

Seems like we all have our tricks for installing/removing pesky parts! And yes, I usually have my over-sized poly carbonate reading glasses on when working on the cars. Thanks for the reminder, Doug!
