can I use this Bulb in my head light?

#1 Post by Lars Hvidsteen »

I have Bosch euro headlight 0 301 800 002 on my 356 B T6 with standard 6v bulb

I have now bought these...

6v 60/55w H4 P45T Halogen Headlight Bulb

They are about 10 mm longer (to long), so my question is, can I remove the metal shield inside the headligt?? the 6v halogen bulb have shield on the bulb?

You need a bulb holder. See illustration below. You can find those on Ebay or Samba. Oh, and the parking light bulb goes in the small hole.

I don't think the bulb holder is the problem, as it doesn't set the depth of the bulb. He is saying that the bulb goes too far into the headlight and hits the shield. On looking at the pics again, I'd drill a hole in the shield and let the new bulb poke through. The tip of the bulb is black anyway and does not need to be shielded.

Lars, I bought new reflectors for both my '64 356C and my '73 911S. Bosch part numbers 1-305-314-928 which I understand are 964 parts, which in UK we seem to be unable to buy as a separate part, they are however used in the TVR Cerbera and I bought them from a TVR parts supplier. I removed the bulb shield from the 911 reflector but left the 356 reflector with them still in place. Oh and I should say that I fitted LED headlight bulbs to both cars 6V for the 356 and 12V for the 911. I cannot see any difference in the amount of light emitted or in the control of any stray light.

I have to say that you should reconsider fitting the halogen bulbs and go for LED as the amount of light they emit is superb and leave the bulb shield in place. The illumination you get from LED will excel during dark winter evenings and your generator/dynamo/alternator will love you for its reduced effort.
