Since I’ll likely never do another car, I’ll mention something I stumbled across a few years ago when looking for easier ways to do cad than actual cad. I tried all the aluminum’s that I could find locally, and even after experimenting with dulling a little with scotch brite, and also clear coating with various mattes, just didn’t like the look. It always looked too fake and “surface”. Cad has sort of an irregularity to it that looks almost like texture.

Then I tried this Stainless Steel paint from Advance and it has worked really well for me. I let it dry a while and then buff it just a little with soft scotch brite, trying to give it a slightly irregular finish.
I figured with all the variations in the cad world,...this would just look like one of the variations.

I did all my “cad” that way, and no one has ever mentioned anything about it,...or at least maybe they were too polite to say, haha.
