the dash paint colour

#1 Post by Lucian Mitrea »

Hello! The dash paint color matches the interior color or the outer body color?

Not sure on my 53 coupe. unable to get the doors open (packed garage) to check it out. multiple coats of paint.
Try to get under the dash and look around or unbolt the dash and pull it out a little to check the sides.
Kardex may help.

Check out the Pre A board and look at the replies and my Kardex
Says R 501 ( B assume? ) Says Artif, leather maroon. The maroon might be the dash color for my black 1953 ? R 501 ( B assume? )
James Davies reply from Brett Johnson book shows a color codes. My Kardex shows the R 501 number that gives more info than the COA.

Lucian is an early A, so body color on the dash and interior door tops.

Pre-A cars mostly had the dash painted interior color, but i believe they did not paint them beige (too light, reflection in windshield), it could be some darker color (maroon etc)

Green may be correct for your ivory 55
R 504 B on the list shows ivory with green.

T1 A is the same as any later 356, all dash boards were painted exterior color.

Your Pre-A is a completely different animal :)

As far as I know, the dash color matches the exterior color on all 356As, Bs, and Cs.

Some of the other colors like the upholstery on top of the dashboard and the painted "window sills" or "door caps" could match the exterior paint or sometimes the upholstery. Many color combinations are fairly well known. Some of the uncommon combinations might be up for debate.

Check the thread Reutter like Kardex. It seems an heir to Karosseriewerk Reutter, Guido Eickholz <info@erlkoenig-classic.de>, is selling a Reutter certificate with all the colors and materials. If you want to be absolutely certain it might be a worthy investment.

It's only for Reutter-built cars but that covers yours.

Yes, matches the exterior color. Because of the light tan interior color they would have used a green vinyl dash top very close in color to the color of the car and matched the door tops to this. Standard practice on early A cars
