Transmission lock - shift rod guide nuts?
As the title says, does anyone happen to have a car already apart that has a transmission shift lock? I’m trying to find out the size of the off center nuts that are located where Jack’s right thumb is in the center picture.

these? Sorry but I just have a picture of them. But the picture might help someone know the part for sure.

I am pretty sure the thread is 6mm but they are more of a rectangular block than a nut, if I remember correctly. Possibly with either a groove or step on the face that clamps on the inside of the tunnel.

Doug's link shows them plated, which I've never seen on ones I've removed.
Regardless, the design is 'way more complicated than it needs to be and they are m6-1.0 threads, so if you have the tools available, it's not hard to sketch up and make an 'aftermarket' substitute which will work just fine.
But you'll have to value your time pretty cheaply to beat the advertised price. Or simply enjoy making them...

I believe the channel down the middle is necessary to clear the edge of the hole in the top of the tunnel, which has a small angle bent in it for strength. I don't think it could be simplified much at all and still fit.

1) Use a piece of 1/4" stock and super-glue some scrap to the sides as spacers.Martin Benade wrote:I believe the channel down the middle is necessary to clear the edge of the hole in the top of the tunnel, which has a small angle bent in it for strength. 2) Use a piece of 3/8" and spend a bit of time on the grinding wheel.
Was that so tough?

Porsche referred to this piece (#43 above) as Spannpratze für Schaltstangenführung, or Clamp for Gear Change Rod Guide.Trevor Gates wrote:I’m trying to find out the size of the off center nuts that are located where Jack’s right thumb is in the center picture.
The socket head cap screw (#44 above) was M6 x 18 DIN 912-8G.
Since the clamps are still available, new or used, Jack will do the right thing and obtain the correct parts ;-)

Re: Transmission lock - shift rod guide nuts?
Thanks everyone. What I was looking for (if anyone had them readily available) was the size, maybe if someone had some in hand and could measure. Wouldn’t take me more than 15~20 minutes to cut the pieces and drill and tap the holes.

Jon, Thanks for the correction, the bolt is a M6, not the M8 as I posted above. In any event, I hoped the illustration helped.

Here you go, Trevor, they're 20 x 25 x 9 mm.Trevor Gates wrote:What I was looking for (if anyone had them readily available) was the size, maybe if someone had some in hand and could measure. Wouldn’t take me more than 15~20 minutes to cut the pieces and drill and tap the holes.
It's nice to know that these are still available from Stoddard.

Note that they are not symmetrical. Only one way to install them correctly; look carefully and it will become obvious.
