By comparison, here's what the factory 'speed nuts' looked like:
The image is too large, in spite of the fact it was taken by some cheapo digital camera, so try imagining something that isn't like Tom's image until the Registry gets around to the 21st century.

Engine insulation options for a 356C?

Thanks Ron, wish your picture of correct speed nuts would have populated. I used the speed nuts sent to me by Roy Nielsen with my interior. The original ones are probably gone. I did this and other projects on the car when I had a ruptured disk in my back. Every day was pure torture. I would be interested in seeing a picture of the correct speed nuts.

Tom, my sympathy for whatever that's worth; I've had the same.
Anyhow, send me a contact addy here: http://www.precisionmatters.biz/ (on the left, 'bout half-way down). I'll send you the image.
Maybe one of these days the web site might catch up to the world, but I'm told I'm not allowed to say so.

Those are in the family of nuts commonly known as tinnerman nuts.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....
