Ash tray location 1960 Roadster

#1 Post by Roy Velthof »

Hi All,

My 1960 Roadster came with a factory installed ash tray, who has pictures showing where it was placed on the dash board.

The roadster also had factory installed Antenna and speakers ,so normally a radio would of been added by the local dealer. Where would that be placed under the dashboard and where would the ash tray be ?

Thanks for your help.

Look under the dash lip for the old original holes. My car had the ash tray just to the right of the ignition and the radio to the right of the ash tray. The old mount holes should line up with the accessories.

I don't have any mounting holes as the car has been repainted in the past... any measurements pictures of the location would be great

Thanks

The mounting holes are not in the dash, they are in the lip or flange at the bottom of the dash. Where the dash is bent forward at the bottom, parallel to the floor. If they were welded before repaint, congratulations it's was a superior restoration, you might feel on the top of the lip for a weld beads.

I had a picnic radio in mine, the ashtray was where that radio bracket starts on the left, and the radio was to the right about 1" from the tray.

Roy I have attached a picture of the dash of my late friend's 60 Roadster he bought it 1972. If you enlarge the picture you can just make out the holes to mount the radio to the right of the ashtray as John Brooks stated.

Bill's car did not have the ashtray or cigar lighter listed on COA. He never obtained a Kardex for his Roadster. They may have been dealer installed. Sold to Elevenparts so maybe you could get measurements of the holes from Marco@ Elevenparts. I believe it was purchased for a friend of Marco's who wanted a Roadster.

Roy, I've got a '61 Roadster (88402), per Kardex it came with the ashtray, but no lighter. I've measured the distance between the right edge of the ashtray slider and the rightmost edge of the dashboard (where it meets the doorframe), in my car it measures exactly 56 cm. Also, I'm pretty sure tha the leftmost edges of the rims of for manual gas and light switch, it will be inline with the leftmost corner of the ashtray. See pictures.
The edge of my dashboard does not show any holes for a radio mounting bracket.
