'65 Coupe on Ebay

#1 Post by Charles H Jacobus »

Could this coupe that is not a numbers matching car be worth $100,000? It's looks like a very nice car, but is worth that? I guess we'll see soon.

A pretty face. My hood fits better. And my schaltschema sticker is in the correct place.

It looks pretty nice, until you look close and see the bad gaps and rounded off edges. If a more talented person had sanded the filler it might look excellent.

Its and SC, always big bucks. Too bad it was taken out of color. According to my records it was black on black. I do have a weak spot for green interiors and with silver this look phenomenal, be it not ,original' as the ad states. Maybe they just meant they used original paint, not the original color? A bit fuzzy, i hope the person plunking down a pile of cash understands what is meant.

Where does it say green in the description? Or is it that green would look good with the silver. The first Porsche that I sat in was black with a green interior--a 57 0r 58 Coupe' in an Oldsmobile Dealer's showroom. It looked like a little grease ball it was sooooo shiny

Albert, if you scroll through the pics in the listing you will see a green interior on this silver SC ;)

As usual Jules is correct, and faster than me with the records! The car was black on black.

That's what I thought on the $70s, Jim. We'll see. Don't understand your comment on Bali Blue, numbers matching.

Chuck, Jim is shamelessly plugging his own car into the discussion ;)

But you would miss out on the uncertainty of auctions and buying from a stranger.

I have a hard time understanding why folks selling $100K cars don't show the underneath. Even if it has been renovated one would like to know how well it was done. And I also have a hard time believing that the market for a non-numbers matching car is $100K.

I wondered that also but have no idea how high-end dealers might work, which is to say maybe they figure you'll be over to inspect/drive it or send somebody to do the PPI. I'd find it a bit unnerving at these fancy dealerships if the car is stuffed into a showroom like a painting and then you want to test drive it. It seems like a big deal to get a car out of the showroom. I'd just say 'forget it'. Dealers might not even like to keep gas in showroom cars, I saw a TV show where a saleman took a healey and then perhaps a bently out for test drives and both ran out of gas , making his prospective buyers a bit annoyed.
