I`m in process of getting the lost keys replaced by a locksmith via the FE- code from my Kardex. I`m slight nervous of using them in my perhaps not working lock. How is the function of the lock? should it lock in all gears or only in neutral.?
the worst case senario would be after using the new keys , that I will lock my car for my self
thanks
Lars

It should be OK. That lock is actually locked in the open and closed position so if the new key is not right it probably will not turn at all. I see little danger that you could get the gearshift locked and not be able to unlock it. When it is adjusted correctly it locks in reverse or neutral.

As Martin said it locks in neutral and reverse only. Worst case scenario just remove the shifter and you can remove the lock. See Jim B's comment here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30991&hilit=shift+lock+mechanism

If its locked it is quite difficult to remove the shifter as the lock pins prevent removal. They were pretty smart back then! If you read the previously mentioned thread you will see all about it. However I wouldn't worry , I think either it will work, or remain unlocked and inoperable.

Hello Lars,
If you are concerned with the gear shift locking after your new keys are made, then don't test the lock while it is installed. Your concerns are valid. It is possible for a lock to seize or keys not retract if the key is improperly cut. However, if the lock is out of the gear shift base, you will not render your car undriveable.

so, went to my worldknown lockguy here in DK with my FE- code , and he found 2 original porsche keys from 1962, and cut 2 keys, I went home together with some interfloon Fin Super teflon spray and lubed the lock..... and a perfect match. A nice working gearlock.
