Re: 912 3rd piece cracks
I've co-bored several of the 2-lower bosses to use the 3rd piece for the '356 look'.
If the corresponding long studs aren't removed, spacers (not washers) should be added but you'll need
do cut reliefs in the 1/2-moon pulley/sheet-metal to clear them. Replacing the studs is better!

I was slightly incorrect about co-boring only 2-bosses for the 356 look; Only the upper left boss remains.
The other 3-bosses to be machined.
As Vic said, the remaining/upper left cracked boss won't be stressed; I'd use a little JB Weld to cover the crack.

Re: 912 3rd piece cracks
you could also machine the bosses/cracks out to use regular 356 bolts the way they were doing on the late factory replacement 3rd piece...
Bt5 Super - used to be fjord green, was painted brass, then brown... sadness

Yes, Greg.
The only thing showing are the left-over webs between the bosses.

In some cases the engine weight would break the collar of the transmission housing in a 356.
I have one of those from the racing days of a Conv D where the car struck a water removal ditch in the road at speed in Palm Springs. Car at that time was driven by Dan Gurney.
Just another little known fact of doubtful value.
