Peter,

I drove a Speedster with Glaspar hardtop for years.

If you install the "GT", steel seat frames in place of the stock wooden ones, it will lower the seats by about one inch.

AFTER you manage to wiggle your 6' frame into place, you should be fine.

You asked,

It's either this or a real job.

I'm 6'3" and have a Glaspar hardtop. With the GT seat frames there's plenty of headroom. Great visibility over the shoulder and it keeps you from getting beat up by the wind and sun on long drives. It also opens up a lot of storage space behind the seats. I take mine off during the summer and put it back on when it gets cold.

You won't regret it!

Russ Rodriguez at Fibersteel used to make

Fibersteel still advertises their Glasspar tops and top accessories. Personally, I have the opposite problem with Speedster seat height. As with many of us, I'm at the age where I am shrinking and now at about 5'7.5" tall. I have NLA's metal seat frames and sitting that inch lower, I miss seeing that sensuous rounded hood and passenger's side fender in addition to the driver's side fender when I drive. I like the metal versus wooden frames and have given casual thought to shimming the seats upward, perhaps with square aluminum tubing? Anyone have a similar thought or experience?
