Has anyone used the shift coupler from Stomski Racing?

The WR Short Shift Kit uses a new lever with a new pivot cup and socket ball. The extension for the socket ball is longer and this changes the fulcrum point in the shifter allowing more travel under the pivot cup for the same amount of travel above. The spacer is necessary to put the socket ball in the correct location for the shift rod. The actual shift lever is also about 1" shorter which also shortens the travel a little more.

If installed correctly, the WR Shifter will be stiffer than a stock shifter because of the change in leverage....just like putting a shorter handle on a floor jack. When developing I tried different combinations of fulcrum length and shift rod length until I got to what I thought was a good compromise.

John, thanks, that is an excellent explanation. I hadn't thought it through. Since the shift lever throws are shorter (the goal of a short-shift kit), the (hidden) lever on the opposite side of the fulcrum must be longer to achieve the same range of motion. So a spacer is necessary to maintain geometry. Duh! Thanks again.

What happens in a 911 when a short-shift kit is installed? I don't think there are any spacers.

John, is the reverse lockout left unaffected by your shifter?

The reverse lock out is not affected. The reverse lock out plate is subject to wear and should always be inspected. We have never offered installation instructions with the short shift kit because it is a simple replacement, usually not even requiring readjustment. I've never had a call about installation. It's very simple.

That said, if the shifter is not reassembled properly, then obviously it won't work the way it's supposed to. Alex is not a mechanic and should find a good one that he can depend on. The parts book has diagrams of how things are installed. What his is describing sounds to me like the reverse lock out. It may be worn or installed upside down, or the spring may be installed incorrectly.

When I set up a shifter this is my procedure once everything is assembled:
Start with the trans in second gear.
Loosen the shift rod at the coupler.
Push the shift lever against the reverse lockout into the normal second gear position.
Tighten the shift rod at the coupler.
That's it.

Looking at a short shift kit for my coupe. I have the trans lock with key.
Will shift kit still enable me to use the trans lock?

The reverse and neutral lockout won't work with the WR Short Shift kit
