Re: Solex sand cast carbs in ebay
Rare and expensive and not many people will need them but they will go to someone who must have them and has much money. I am guessing if I bid $1500 I would still not meet reserve.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Also look at the jet setup and be sure they were not set up for alcohol.

Anyone know what the upper throttle spring terminal originally was? The piece that's on there looks like late Friday before a Saturday qualifying session.

NOT on my 1500 and former 1600 GS engines, John.
The bodys and tops are different along w/the filter mountings.
To be fair, I haven't worked on Spyders or once on a 904s, but I don't think these are used on them, either.

Re: Solex sand cast carbs in ebay
Its been a while since I did a 547 but, My manual 4804.20 from June 1963, Pg 8&9 sez.. Solex 40 P II 4 used on:
Type 547/0 547/1 Engine No.P-90 500 through 959 in 1955-1958
692/0/1/2 P-91 001 through 020 and /2 No. P-92-001 to 014 in 1958
692/3 P-93 001 through 139 in 1958 1959
its also references them for Type 692/3A in 1960 and 587/1 in 1962
First call for the Weber 40 DCN 2 is the 692/3 in 59 on No. P-95-001 through 112
I remember the old guys talking about the Solex carbs not being well suited to high G side loads and foiling plugs. Webers were better and not as prone to fouling plugs so that was what "speedy racers" were installing.
I bought a set of early sand cast P II in the mid sixties for a S-90 I was building, with that brass float, only to find them to have been built for Alcohol and by the time I re jetted and re fitted them for gas, I should have bought new ones cheaper.. I was a kid and did not know at the time some of the hill climb cars were alcohol.
