Re: DO NOT POWDER COAT!!!
You won't be able to clean glass beads or other media out the filler, it will continue to pollute your oil over time. Any filler that has been blasted inside should be scrapped - thrown away. If you don't, there is a chance someone will try to use it someday. Evaporust is a chelation process that dissolves the rust. It needs to be rinsed for a good long time and should be painted afterward. Muriatic acid will also remove the rust by etching it. It too needs a good rinse. I used thinned oil based enamel to coat the inside of the one I did. I haven't tried gas tank sealer but that might work also. I blocked off the bottom of the filler (later style), poured in a few ounces of thinned enamel, sloshed it around, and drained it. Followed up with a second coat then baked at about 200°.

Re: DO NOT POWDER COAT!!!
Steve, I do the canister and lid. They are easily cleaned. That said, if you are at all concerned, skip that too. I have better facilities than a lot of guys. …….Jim.
PS. That did not sound right. I'm retired, and can focus more time that most.

Re: DO NOT POWDER COAT!!!
i been using baking soda to blast with .. doesn't cause any health or environmental issues and the parts are easily cleaned up with water.
works well on carbs and any soft metals like cases .. currently blasting a Porsche tag Mclaren f1 block. should make a really nice stand up cocktail table once i'm finished
You can see the slight oxidation on the engine. The blasted party are cleaning up looking like new . Without altering the metal. I don't have any pictures yet of the blasted parts work in progress.

Not a good idea to sand blast and powder coat Super 90 or SC mesh air filters either, don't ask how I know. Makes a mess of cylinder walls.
