Petcock Rebuild
Dear friends
Does anyone know how to remove the Circlip (9) to disassemble the Fuel Petcock.
I'd like to replace the Petcock Cork Gasket.
Many Thanks
David

Re: Petcock Rebuild
You need a socket with an ID to go around the 'ball', deep enough to clear the "ball", an OD small enough to clear the circlip.
Another socket for the other side to keep from damaging the outlet.
Or pieces of tubing you might have laying around.
Put the lot in a vice, tighten to where you can use a pick or scribe to remove the circlip.
Reassemble in opposite order.

Re: Petcock Rebuild
Back in November 2008, Roy Mawbey posted more detailed instructions, with photos, in the thread petcock gasket replacement.
You can see it at viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4984&view=next#p20879.
It's been quite a while since I used those instructions but my recollection is it's pretty easy. Take some care that the spring clip doesn't leap away.
--------------------------
When you're done, be very careful reattaching the petcock to the tank with that right- & left-hand threaded "nut" lest your car fill up with gasoline.

Re: Petcock Rebuild
Here's a photo of my early petcock in the vise but as noted, use sockets on both ends, not just one as in the photo.

Re: Petcock Rebuild
Many Thanks gentlemen for your informative replies, and solutions.
Answers from Ron, Doug and Jim in a matter of a few hours, after my post.
David, thank you, too.
Problem solved and parts are ordered.
By the way, the Petcock Rebuild all started with the Windscreen Wipers not working. That was caused by a corroded fuse end, refusing to pass electricity.
One thing led to another, and another, ......... as owners of Porsche 356s well know.
Best Regards to you all.

I realize this is an old thread, but I just can't help but point out this quote is priceless. I almost want to make a t-shirt with that printed on it.David Nicholls wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2017 5:32 am By the way, the Petcock Rebuild all started with the Windscreen Wipers not working.
The pointers to the rebuild instructions are quite good too.
Thank you 356 Registry!

Dennis, if you make those tee-shirts, be sure to incorporate a rabbit hole 🕳 in the design.

Re: Petcock Rebuild
Great to see this, as I hope to be diving into a petcock rebuild early next week.

Wes, I’m not familiar with FSM so I Googled it. First hit is Flying Spaghetti Monster. It’s actually better than our forum?

Re: Petcock Rebuild
Sorry Martin, I should have written Factory Service Manual but my laziness had me in acronym mode.
