I have been having problem with backfire on initial start and warm up but good power when warm and running without backfiring.
Today I took car for a drive and backfired and stalled. I was able to restart and drove car up hill and backfired and stalled and completely died.
No power, electric failed, and no lights when turning ignition. There was no smoke. Towed her home in garage.
Any ideas?

Check battery connections and in particular the separate red wire connected to the battery post clamp that runs to the light switch terminal 30.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Does it backfire like a firecracker, or more of a sneeze? You may have both a backfire problem and an electrical issue which stopped you completely.

David.
Look if coil isn't producing enough spark or loose connection in distributor.
possible exhaust leak for backfire.

Please be VERY Specific with what problems you have now and the ones you've ignored until now.
And please tell us the last time it got a complete tune in the progression that requires.
