Recliner Mechanism Cover Pair 1965 SC cab

#1 Post by David Stieber »

Hi All;
I'm having a problem with my passenger seat reclining mechanism in my 1965 SC cab and have isolated the plastic part PEL-A1099 as the source of the problem as it is broken. I tried to order it from Pelican Parts. They rejected the order as NLA. Anyone know a supplier for this part?
Thanks,
David Stieber

Is there a rubber piece that disengages the seat mechanism to lock the seat. That piece seems to be missing. Do you know where I can order that part?

https://porsche356registry.org/article/ ... _T6_65.jpg metal hook at bottom. Is your knob missing? Picture would help. Jim @EASY might have a part but would need to know exactly what you need.

Nope, but it didn't do that.
Those plastic covers were intended to keep the "finger" in the "groove" of the "tooth-face washer" by preventing the "shaft" from moving aft, which movement aft allowed the "finger" to disengage from the "groove", and since the "finger" (with the mouse-trap spring wrapped around it an inch or so forward) was the only source of side-loading that "tooth-faced washer" into its stationary mate to maintain seat-back adjustment, well, for the lack of a shoe...
EASY Jim explained this to me 10 years or so ago, and I couldn't believe that crummy piece of plastic did that, but EASY Jim knows whereof he speaks. And, hey, that crummy piece of plastic lasted 40 years or so on most of our cars.
BTW, replacing the plastic cover will accomplish the same; you just have to disassemble the entire seat-back adjustment mechanism to install them
