Left quarter window

#1 Post by Charles H Jacobus »

The shaft on my left quarter vent window is broken where it attaches to the window. Is it possible to get the chrome piece on the bottom of the window off?

Does anyone fix these?

Thanks

Chuck, if this is the front vent window, that joint between the frame and the pin was probably a result of a meeting between the marketing and the accounting departments. No competent mechanical designer would have ever put her name on THAT drawing.
It is likely that there are more of those around than doors trying to find them, so check the folks selling 'used' parts. And examine the assembly VERY closely before refitting; refitting them can also lead to failure.
For context, here's a story:
I lived in Cinti, had a '23 Ford T coupe with an A drive-train (no planetary trans). The doors were 'suicide' and one of the latches failed. I played center field; I caught the door before the rear fender took the hit. A bit south of Dayton, there was a guy with a Ford T and A parts yard; all I had to do is swear I wasn't gonna put a flattie in it. $10, thank you very much. The car was 40 years old at the time; 12 years newer than my daily driver C.
We're lucky; Support those who recognize that even rust hulks have usable parts and salvage them for your benefit.

Ah! The stem on what I call the vent window broke off. Ron's right; it's a crappy design. I'd check with our used parts vendors like Klasse 356, Jim at EASY, etc. to see if they have the part. I have seen them repaired by brazing but they might not fit correctly.

The chrome on this car was done when it was renovated and I'd hate to loose that. Seems like the window might even slide out if I took the lock off. Is that true?

in general I think this is what I'm looking for. Can anyone see any issues for the '65 coupe? Is it easy to attach to the rest of the frame?
What's a reasonable price?

Thanks

Chuck,

The one you show is for a cab, you need a coupe frame and remember that they are left/right and not symmetrical. The piece you need --as you know--is shown below and it may be removeable from a coupe frame, ask the vendors of they have one separately.
