Super-90 flywheel shims
Is any of our parts sources making shims for Super-90 for setting endplay?

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Jacques so is that 15ea of the 7 different thickness shims? If not is it OK to use 3 of the normal shims to get to the desired thickness? Mike

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
yes we can make the exact sizes but i may be better to make the thinner sizes by surface grinding big one so we don't end up with too many of the thinner sizes

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Jacques: Thank you, I appreciate the offer to make me 100 shims. At this point in life I don't want to start a speciality Porsche engine supply house so I was hoping one of the suppliers had a source for them. I only need 1 so 99 + shims might be overdoing it for my needs. This will probably be the last 356/912 engine I will rebuild, & wouldn't you know it had to be a S-90 (devil in disguise). All joking aside is it OK to stack the 912 style shims? VW did it for years although much thinner. I could machine one and get it hardened if I knew how hard it needs to be. Mike

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Whoa! The S-90 shim is much larger diameter. Using standard OD shims ain't gonna work with S-90 #1 bearing.

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Thanks Vic. I knew the shims were thicker , i just hadn't checked diameters. The shim I have is worn badly so I was trying to source a new one. After finding out how rare they are I was trying to find a way around, but the S-90 strikes again. Can you figure out which shim is required like the normal cranks before you assemble the engine? Hopefully it will be the same thickness shim with new main bearings and same crank & flywheel. Mike

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
I have a S90 shim. Will measure it and report back. Yours if it will work.
Found the shims, but others will have to confirm is they are S90, as they came out of a S90 but lots of turkey stuff done to it.
OD 65mm
ID 49mm
One is .0125", other .0366"

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Phil thank you for the offer. The OD should be 69.5mm, ID 49mm. Thickness ranges from 2.8mm to 3.05mm or .110" to .120" . Sounds like you may have VW shims. Thanks Mike

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Michael,
Did anyone answer your original question about any vendors carrying S90 flywheel shims? I don't know of any but I am in the same predicament. I have a S90 shim but it is a bit worn and giving me .012in endplay. It is 2.805mm or 0.1104in. I need a S90 shim of 2.93 - 2.98mm or .115 - .117in.. The OD is ~69.7mm and ID ~49mm. What size do you need?
Who out there has some S90 shims? Someone must have some squirreled away. This is the only thing holding me up from going to the Emory campout.

Chuck
I was able to find a nos 3.05 shim @ Parts Heaven. Call Spencer (510) 782-0354 and ask him, I think he has more of the same part #61610216105. I bought it thinking at least I have trading material, or maybe having it ground to proper thickness, machine flywheel? I don't know what thickness I need, but the shim in the engine I'm working on is about like yours worn badly .110". Hope this helps and you get to the Emory Campout with your car. Mike

Re: Super-90 flywheel shims
Thanks Mike and Vic. I had a couple of responses quickly and already have the correct size on its way. It's really nice to still see members step up and help each other. That's the way it's supposed to be! Thanks again.
