1960 T5 coupe restoration problem

#1 Post by Juergen Eisermann »

Just got the car back after a bare metal strip and re-paint ( check it out at www.orbitracing.com). Now the dash cover and luggage area rear padding are installed with 1/4 inch gaps between the window and the dash/pad. What went wrong? Any suggestions on how to correct this?
Thanks,
Juergen

Maybe nothing wrong. There are defroster vents there and there needs to be a gap. A picture would help.

Nothing wrong at all. As Doug says, there should be a gap for the defroster vents.

The gap area should be painted in the interior color using flat paint, originally applied by hand.

Look like your car is Ivory? On many light colored cars the defroster vent area was hand painted flat black so there would be no reflection on to the windshield.

hmmm....that looks familiar....
it actually wasn't a flat finish, this picture was before it had even been wiped clean; more like 70/30 gloss/semi gloss....
and..the interior was black, so the inside windshield posts, etc were the same...

Your picture Jim? I saved it from a discussion a few years ago about the dash paint. If yours sorry for not attributing it to you but my mind doesn't remember that much.

No worries, I just commented because I don't think they were all painted black there, but rather the interior color in that spot. This one just happened to have a black interior.
