Is that the coating that is very thick and rough, both inside and outside?

They did apply a coating on the outside as well as inside. But I'm sure you could have only the inner sealer applied.

Eric,
POR products get good reviews, but I want to recommend KBS Coatings tank sealers. I used them on our VW tanks and our 61 T-5 tanks with excellent results thus far. They offer kits for different size tanks.

Re: 4,000 dollar fuel tank leaks
Tank was well cleaned and sealed up using the Red stuff. Seems fine after a month. A few issues with the install: Had to enlarge the hole in the sheet metal where the petcock passes into the car. The new tank has the petcock located half an inch or more forward of the old one. Also, the fuel feed tube for the normal feed setting is now too tall, giving me more than 6 gallons of reserve. The reserve tube is under the dome, with a feed pipe going forward to the very nose of the tank. Getting these things sealed up and making new finger strainers out of replacement strainers, a few bronze parts on the lathe, and a sealing ring to shut off the dome so that no air is sucked in on the reserve setting. I will have to shorten the fuel feed tube next time it is apart. No, it was not simple or easy like I thought it was going to be.
