The link pins are easily replaced, while the king pins require some professional assistance...unless you have a good sized press available. The king pins cannot be hammered in or out of place but must be pressed in. Once refurbished, the car should be good for another fifty years before having to re-do the work...more if you lubricate frequently.

I used to do VW king pins occasionally with a big hammer, not that difficult. I have a large press now, so no more hammering.
