engine hatch release

#1 Post by James Goldenetz »

I have not opened the engine latch release on my 1959 356A in many moons and now it will not open.
Pull knob in rear seat area pulls out but hatch does not open.
Any ideas?

James; welcome.
Maybe the lid is stuck. Have somebody pull up on the lid while you pull the release.

James you should have an emergency access hole as shown in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42681

Have someone pull release cable and try pulling up gently as mentioned by Vic. If that doesn't work try pushing down lightly on lid above the mechanism while someone is pulling cable and it should pop up when you release it. If not you can try the emergency hole below and fish around till you catch the release and can pop it open. Might lube mechanism and shorten the cable at mechanism, i.e. pull it tighter but not too much or it won't lock.
