Dropped engine and found strange ball bearing
Posted here as well with a photo. Should it be there?

It's in the recess where the starter rides. Couldn't find a reference to it in the manual.
Thanks,

Harold - Can't open your picture but it might be from from a vent in one of your valve covers.

try edit, and "add file: at the bottom. Post the photos here. There are several small bearings inside the starter around the shaft.

Re: Dropped engine and found strange ball bearing
The bearing was actually laying on the ledge. I popped it in there to see if that's where it went?

That is where the end of the starter sits. Just FYI. Has anyone seen this before?

That is too large to have come out of the starter bendix. There is a bushing in there not a ball.

Re: Dropped engine and found strange ball bearing
Looks like maybe m5 dia.? I can't place ANY bearing ball of that diameter anywhere outside of, maybe, the transmission. Or axles.
Practical joke?

Re: Dropped engine and found strange ball bearing
Does the throw-out bearing look like it could have coughed out a ball?

Re: Dropped engine and found strange ball bearing
The bushing extractor tool has a small ball bearing in the end to spread the jaws of the tool, not sure of diameter.

Harold,
Maybe it was laid by a ball weevil and couldn't get out.

Rusty may be on to the right track.
The ball spreads the fingers. Perhaps an over-zealous operator pushed it right out last time the bushing was changed ...Greg Bryan
