Bosch Distributor VJ 4 BR 8

#1 Post by Carl Luck »

Does anyone have experience or info on using this VW distributor in a 356 A? Does anyone know where to find an advance curve for it?

The BR8 is a VW distributor with about 15° full mechanical advance, starting in at around 1800 RPM and max'd at about 3500RPM. It's one of the predecessors to the 009. Neither is going to be right for your car. A BR9, BR18, 022, or 031 are what you need with about 30° full mechanical advance starting at about 1000RPM. Here's some info. on them:

I made the BR 8 work by putting new springs from Soddard in and drilled the pin hole larger ...on my distributor machine I got 25 degrees ...worked in my 1956 car....
