All done. Linings were 7.3mm (old ones were 3.0mm) with adjusters backed right off, initially. Just took the shine off the metal drums and fitted new springs and high temp grease on the plates behind the shoes. Adjusted and then drove and then adjusted again after checking wheel temps. New wheel bearings as well. Huge difference in braking performance. Very pleased with reduced pedal pressure and straight effective braking.

I am relining my brake shoes. Can anyone suggest a shop in Los Angeles to do this? I guess shipping would not be too bothersome, so anywhere in the US could do.

Are the choices for lining material mentioned here, Jurid, Energit, and Frendo, still relevant?

Edwin do a search on Google. There are many places that do shoe relining.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Ed: Google C.H. Topping in Long Beach. Well-acquainted with 356 brakes and drums.

Edwin, my experience was to go for a medium hardness lining as that seems to suit the set up and resists fade pretty well. ATE now have ceramic pads and shoe material but not sure if it is available there. I use their pads on the 911 - no more black dust!

Mike, thanks for the tip. That is the place. Several well-known shops in So. Cal. use them.
