Will This Fan Be A Problem For My Roadster?

#1 Post by Gary Delahanty »

I need to replace the fan in my Roadster motor and a friend sourced one for me. Since the replacement fan has larger holes than the original, we're wondering whether this fan will cause my motor to overheat.

This is the original fan

You can see that this replacement has larger holes

Here is the original with the cover in place

You can see that the holes are not completely covered on the replacement

I'm wondering whether the holes will divert air from cooling the motor and cause it to overheat. Will it cause a whirring sound? Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

Thank you in advance for all your help and expertise.

I don't know about the over-heating but it might cause some noise.

There are several variants of the 28 vane fan. There's a lot of previous discussions if you search the topic. Whatever you do, I would suggest that you tig weld and have the fan balanced. I've seen the destruction that can happen when the old rivets give.

That fan looks pretty beaten up. Why not source a 28 blade fan? Chances are it will be newer than the 16 blade, in better condition, and will move a larger volume air?
