Downlighter lens

#1 Post by John Clarke »

Hi all
I know that this must has been covered somewhere in the past, but I can't find it. The two small plastic lens in the Shine Down Downlighters have broken, I managed to put my thumbs through the plastic when replacing a bulb! They must have already been cracked. Are these two small lenses available separately? These are the earlier 'Downlighters' with the small curves in the lenses in them. Not sure if the later 'Shine Up' are the same. Don't want to have to replace the complete unit if possible.
Many thanks Jay

I believe Sierra Madre carries them. Go to their web site and search 'license plate light lens".

Shine down license lenses are clear, no design or texture.
Shine up license lenses have moon curves and pebble grain texture.

Thanks to all for the valuable information. I found a source here in the UK but they were asking over £22 each plus postage for these.
I know we are Porsche owners, but that's daft!
Brad, thanks for the info on the differences between the lenses on the up & down lighters. So as the downs are clear I will get some thin clear 'Perspex' sheets and make some up. Cheapskate!
Cheers Jay

Many thanks Jens
I will send you a PM. I will make a temporary pair and then replace them when you come back from the States next time.
Not sure if the earlier Down Lighters had the curved 'rainbows' light diffuser in them or not, I couldn't really tell from Brett Johnson's book. The ones that broke up on me had the curves in them, I don't suppose it matters, where was the info from Brad?
Many thanks Jay

You may prefer the reverse lens is glass with proper markings, not plastic.

As far as I know, the clear plastic lenses for the license lights are not reproduced. The glass reverse light is reproduced.
