Headliner question, T6 coupe

#1 Post by Ron Hoff »

Reading one of our books, says to use strips of muslin on door posts and around windows (at top). Muslin is too thin to act as padding, so what is the purpose of the muslin?

Headliner muslin

I'm not an upholsterer but did save the original headliner in my coupe, including the muslin strips. It glued back into place nicely.

The muslin isn't padding but rather protection for the headliner material from any sharp edges around window and door openings. The strips are made of cotton, light/medium weight and about an inch wide.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Russ, you confirm my suspicion. I just finished installing an AI headliner. Used the strips on the door posts. Anyplace which was suspect as to surface I used 220 grit on a pad to smooth things out. I had only a couple spots which may have been a problem.
